Breaks up deep knots

Strong, targeted pressure gets into tight, overworked muscles, freeing movement and easing tension where you need it most.

Restores flexibility

By working through layers of muscle, a deep tissue massage helps to release built-up stiffness, so you can move with ease again.

Boosts circulation for faster recovery

Deep, controlled strokes improves the blood flow to tired muscles, reducing soreness and speeding up post-workout or day-to-day recovery.

After a quick consultation, your Urban pro will perform a full-body massage treatment with strong pressure that builds up, focusing on any tight spots.

During treatment expect slow, strong strokes using elbows, fists and forearms to break up tension and bring relief.

You might feel sore after – it's like a workout for your muscles – but that’s just your body resetting. Any tenderness should ease off within 72 hours, leaving you looser, lighter and ready to get back to doing what you love.

After a more gentle, sleep-inducing treatment? You’ll love our relaxing massage, Urban classic or sleep massage options.

FAQs

People usually ask...

A deep tissue massage is a full-body treatment designed to tackle tight, overworked muscles. Unlike a lighter massage, this one uses firm pressure to work deep into the layers of muscle and connective tissue, helping release stubborn knots and built-up stiffness.

With the Urban app, you can enjoy all the benefits without leaving the house by booking a mobile deep tissue massage. Pick from the UK’s best massage pros and enjoy a spa-like treatment without having to travel.

Deep tissue is ideal for you if:

  • You’re dealing with muscle tension, stiffness, or soreness

  • You want a stronger, more targeted massage with a focus on stubborn knots

  • You prefer the feeling of a proper, pressure-packed massage

But it isn't for everyone – if you have diabetes, are pregnant or have an injury, this treatment isn’t recommended.

Pregnant? Try our specialist pregnancy massage instead. available from your second trimester.

If you’re dealing with a muscle injury or movement issues, our injury and pain management massage might be a better fit.

No, a deep tissue massage should never be painful, and you should let your therapist know if you’re ever in pain. It is, however, normal to feel slight discomfort as your therapist increases the pressure. The strength of deep tissue massage means you might find it makes you feel tired afterwards at first.

For the massage table (that your therapist will bring) you’ll need about 2x3m of floor space. That’s about the size of a yoga mat, with enough space to walk around the edge.

While some might find relief from lower back pain from a deep tissue massage, at Urban we recommend our specialist injury/pain management massage delivered by therapists who have undergone extra training. It’s specifically designed to deal with common issues like frozen shoulder, pinched nerve, shoulder and lower back pain.

Give yourself at least an hour post-massage to recover, being sure to drink plenty of water. Bear in mind you’re likely to feel a little sore for up to 72 hours after a deep tissue treatment, but you should be able to go about your normal activities in the meantime.
